Kjær Architecture has been commissioned to undertake a comprehensive feasibility study for the Kaptajn Johnsens Skole and to create a design concept for future refurbishment and development. Currently, Kjær is assisting the school in the planning and design of a new, state-of-the-art, educational facility, to be integrated within the historic Frederiksberg campus.
Working closely with the lively urban context and architectural vernacular of Frederiksberg, the new building design includes science labs, flexible classrooms, and a multi-functional activities arena. For the exterior of the building, Kjær envisions a new terrace courtyard, improving the interior flow of light, air, and students, while simultaneously enlivening the outdoor experience of the campus grounds and connection to the urban surrounds.
